It maybe better to watch Rivian from the sides for now (09Mar22)

Rivian $RIVN earnings will be announced in one day. The company may not have much to show on top of the delay in production.  They have costings issues and made a mess recently when they were forced to retract their "price increase".  This implies that the production cost could be much higher than initially anticipated. With a lesser than forecast production, it would mean more costs and less revenue - loss may be higher than expected and thus, a price slide looks to be possible.   Rivian sliding since Nov 2021 From the 1 Day chart above, we are not seeing any "brake" or reversal on the downtrend as yet. Till Rivian gets into profitability or breakeven, less than satisfactory earnings and guidance will have immense pressure on price.  EV plays a big role as the world transits into a more sustainable future and Rivian definitely has a part to play.  Personally, I would observe the developments on the side.  For me, it is not a time to be an investor (...

My investing muse - how to trade near earnings reports? (14Feb2022)

The market usually gets excited (or worried) leading to the business earnings. There are investors who buy the stock  before  the earnings anticipating that the stock would go up or down after the earnings were released.  While we may gather much information from various sources, it would still be difficult for us to ascertain how the market will "react" to the news.  In the earnings reports, there are  3 components  that are crucial.  For this, let us use Walmart ‌ $Wal-Mart(WMT)$   ‌as an example: From the earnings forecast above (from www.investing.com), we see that there are 2 components highlighted namely, the Revenue and EPS (earnings per share) . For the period ending 01/2022, the market is expecting Walmart to meet or beat $1.49 for EPS and $151.74B for revenue.  Why would the price fall when both EPS and revenue beat the market?  Assuming that the drop is not a market-wide fall, the 3rd component that affects the sto...

Websites I use for my trade setup - Part 3 of 4 (01Dec2021)

As part of my qualification of companies, I will use www.Quickfs.net to   obtain 10 years overview , income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement and key ratios. This is to   supplement Yahoo Finance that only provide financial data for the last 4-5 years . In general, I am looking for an uptrend and I can “accept” 1 or 2 years of “less than adequate” performance. More importantly, a good company should demonstrate that they can cope with bad times like the Covid 2020 hit 2020-2021 where we should   expect   quicker than average recovery. 3. Quickfs.net My favourite screen is actually the “overview” page - which shows key ratios (P/E, P/B, P/S), 10-year median returns, margins, 10-year CAGR, key financial info over the last 10 years. In a quick glance, I would be able to get good key information about the business. Revenue and EPS are good guides about the business but these do not provide enough details into the businesses. The details are needful so that we...
