NBS Step-Out Mentoring Programme Midpoint Workshop/Networking 26Sep2023

Thanks to NTU/NBS for setting this up. It is good to meet Leonard Zuzarte and Ruo Mei Chua in person. Thanks for organizing a successful event last evening where we covered topics on self-discovery, how to stand out and what's next after landing a job.

To the various NBS undergrads, it is a pleasure to meet you. To the mentors who have shared generously, I have been enriched by you. Know that we (mentees and mentors) have learnt from one another last night and it was never a one-way street.

Here are some of my muse and thoughts from last night's session:

  • Know who you are (values), what you have (resources) and what you can do (talent, competency).
  • Do what you need so that you can do what you want.
  • Documentation is king.
  • You are born an original, do not die a copy.
  • Being the best version of yourself is the best gift you can give to yourself and the world.
  • We like to be understood by our intentions and not our actions. This needs to be vice versa towards another. Render understanding and benefit of the doubt.
  • Seek an understanding of the personality profiles so that you understand their strengths, weaknesses and tendencies. This is a good guide but never cast in stone.
  • What you like may not be what you are good at.
  • What route should you take? - specialist, manager, leader.
  • Let us work on our soft skills.
  • Prioritizing of work - ask the manager if you are not sure.
  • Work-life balance can be overrated. Life moves in seasons.

Author recommendation - Jim Collins by Ms Sherryn.

I wish all of you the best and may you continue to create great value wherever you go.
