News and geopolitical outlook

Ukraine conflict drags on as the peace talks fail to provide a resolution.  However, the talks have improved.  A recent attack on Russian soil has brought back some tension.  China's Shanghai lockdown looks to continue.  This has brought the commerce capital of China to a standstill.  There remain concerns about the energy crisis, food supplies, fertilizer supplies and agricultural supplies like wheat.  China has agreed with the Solomon Islands to set up a military presence in the Pacific, bringing concerns from USA and Australia.  Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency following violent protests due to energy, food and medicine shortages.  Some of the real estate companies suspended their trading in the HKEX as they failed to submit their financial reports before the due date of 31 Apr 2022.  Let us monitor closely how this may unfold.  The inverted yield curve (US 2 & 10-year treasury rate) which preceded the last few recessions was spotted.

Personally, I am only looking at Levi's out of personal interest.  It was one of the first stocks that I bought as I love the brand when I started investing years back.  This was one of the first lessons that I have learnt:
For some of the business, it is better if we remain as customers, not investors.

From the 1D chart above, S&P looks to continue its upward climb as per MACD and Stochastic technical indicators.

D uring a recent interview with Yahoo Finance,   Ray Dalio has shared his concerns that Cryptocurrencies may be outlawed .  Governments would want a monopoly on money and they have concerns that Cryptocurrencies may jeopardise their currencies' role - leading to depreciation & dilution of value.  Mr Dalio has also expressed his preference for gold over Bitcoin (BTC) despite their performance.  However, this does not stop Mr Dalio from owning some cryptocurrencies. Technical Analysis Exercise (12Apr2022) This is looking at charts based on technical analysis of their 1D chart.  It is strongly recommended to conduct fundamental analysis before we conduct any technical analysis . Abbreviation  (based on 1D chart) MA = Moving Average MA50 = Moving Average 50 days (short term trend) MA200 = Moving Average 200 days (longer-term trend) Being prudent, I will give preference MACD indicator for the following logic:  I will rather be late than too early.  I may get lesser profits but I could (potentially) avoid a bigger loss (entering too early and catching a falling knife).   One of the factors influencing my decision will be the Beta of the stock (above 1 being more volatile).  If the stock is more volatile, I may consider leaning more on stochastic than MACD.  As per my previous article, MACD is giving a much more reliable signal than Stochastic .
